Mastery of your mother tongue, or the fluency of the English language? What will you choose? Which do you prefer? Many people think of these as choices. But you should balance these two aspects. None of these aspects is better that the other. Let's look at the benefits of the fluency of the English language and the mastery of the mother tongue:
Fluency of the English Language: Getting jobs and in communication. When you try to get a job, especially when the companies deal with international clients, you should learn how to speak in English clearly and fluently. That's because English is the world language. If you do not know how to speak in English, you will have lower chances in getting jobs in other countries. And if you don't know how to speak in English, how can you communicate with different people around the world?
Mastery of the Mother Tongue: This is really important. We should know our own language and must not forget it. We must maintain it because the language helps us value our culture and heritage. This is what makes us unique and have our own identity. Also, when the native language is not maintained, important links to family members may be lost.
It may be hard to choose from the two, but for me, we must balance both to keep our native culture and heritage alive in ourselves, and to be fluent in speaking the world language.
